Background
The Frick Collection is an art museum consisting of more than 1,100 works of art from the thirteenth to the nineteenth century, displayed in the intimate surroundings of the former home of Henry Clay Frick. The residence, with its furnishings and works of art, has been open to the public since 1935. It is one of the world’s most perfect museums; its sister research institution the Frick Art Reference Library is of equal distinction.
Job Summary
Assists the Head of Retail and Visitor Services with management of the Museum Shop, Admissions Desk, Acoustiguide Desk, Telephones, Rights and Reproduction requests, Shop website, and buying for the Shop.
Works closely with 2 full time Coordinators for the department. Serves as weekend supervisor and supervises part-time staff and volunteers, including scheduling. Serves as troubleshooter and support to Retail and Visitor Services staff.
In collaboration with the Information Technology department, maintains Shop Web site and provides technical support for all computers and machines related to the Shop and Admissions.
Processes requests, including sending out photographic material and invoices and maintaining customer files for Rights and Reproduction. Maintains current digital image, ektachrome, photograph and slide files.
Assist with processing of mail orders from the museum shop and Web site. Responsible for creating and maintaining signage and displays in the Shop. Assists with development of new products for the Shop.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in art history or related field. Candidate must be extremely detail oriented, have strong organizational and interpersonal skills, flexibility, work well independently and have a good sense of humor. Retail experience essential. Must be computer literate in a Windows environment with web and retail accounting systems experience. Bilingual skills (English/Spanish or French) useful. Must be able to work weekends.
