Access to Materials
All materials in the Library are noncirculating. They
may be examined on site at the Frick Art Reference Library in the
Reading Rooms. Library stacks are closed to the public. To locate
materials, researchers must search FRESCO,
the online catalog; and the other catalogs, indexes, and finding
aids available at the Library. To request materials, researchers must
fill out call slips. Items requested are brought to the Reading
Rooms by the paging staff. Readers are limited to a maximum of twenty requests for book materials and/or photographic materials
per day.
Some services, such as access to rare book materials,
may be limited on Saturdays.
Services
- The Reference Staff is available to answer questions about print
and electronic reference tools.
- Reference questions may be submitted through a Web-based
form or mail by researchers outside the New York City metropolitan
area.
- Reference services by telephone are provided Monday through Friday
from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (212-547-0641).
- Reprographic services are available
and include photocopies from books, photographs, and microforms;
and photographic prints from negatives owned by the Library.
- Interlibrary loan services are available.
Ask at the Reference Desk.
- Materials may be reserved for one week; Reading Room materials,
new books, periodicals, rare books, and supply photographs may
not be reserved.

Reading Rooms:
Main Reading Room — The Main Reading Room of the Library contains reference books, current periodicals, selected new books, announcements, guides, and finding aids to the Library's resources.
Small Reading Room — This room is devoted to the use of electronic resources, offering microform readers and a printer, computer workstations, and outlets for laptop use.

First-time researchers must bring a photo ID and arrive before 3:00 on weekdays or 11:00 on Saturdays
