Testing and Installing Java Software

The virtual tour of the Collection, photographed in 1998 by Bill Swersey, uses IPIX technology. Many real estate Web sites and other commercial sites use this technology, so you may already have the required software on your computer. You must have Java 4 to view this tour.

If needed, please go to www.java.com and download the latest software for your computer operating system. After the software has downloaded it must be installed. You will then have to close the browser and then return to the tour before the software is functional. For installation procedures and additional information, see Java.

IPIX Help

If you have any questions about how to navigate through the tour, please go to IPIX FAQs for detailed instructions. After the Java software has been installed, you should be able to view the virtual tour. If you can see the image below, your computer is properly configured.

As you view a full 360-degree panorama using IPIX™ technology, you can pan around the room, zoom in and out, and examine any part of the room at your own pace. You can also click on individual works of art for a closer view and to read about the work of art and the artist, or click on doorways to enter different rooms in the Collection. For more information, see IPIX 360° Navigation.

Acoustiguide Audio Tour Selections

Some sound clips from the Acoustiguide audio tour have been added to this Web site. You can now listen to Curator Susan Grace Galassi, Curator Emeritus Edgar Munhall, and former Director Samuel Sachs II comment upon Henry Clay Frick, his Gilded Age mansion, and provide illuminating narrative on individual rooms and masterpieces in the Collection.

Other notable artworld professionals such as Nicholas Hall, a dealer in Old Master paintings and Jacqueline Chambord, Artistic Director, French Institute/Alliance Française discuss works by artists of their own native countries.

The Acoustiguide audio tour selections are made available in MP3 format, which can be heard on a large selection of software on both PC and Macintosh computers.

This system may be periodically down for maintenance. For more information, see Web Site.
