Entering the Art Market: Collectors and Their Passions
Presented by the Center for the History of Collecting at the Frick Art Reference Library in tandem with Christie’s Education, this two-part began at The Frick Collection on October 23 from 5:30–7:00 p.m. with a panel moderated by Nanne Dekking, founder and CEO of Artory, and chairman of TEFAF. Mr. Dekking interviewed collectors Bernard Lumpkin and Ann Tenenbaum, who discussed how they became interested in collecting, some of their earliest purchases, and tips for new collectors.
The event continued on November 6 at Christie’s from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. where Christie’s Education facilitated previews of the upcoming Impressionist & Modern Art and Post-War & Contemporary Art sales with department specialists. The tours were led by Allegra Bettini (Associate Specialist, Head of Works on Paper, Impressionist & Modern Art Department) and Stephen Jones (Associate Vice President, Senior Writer, Post-War & Contemporary Art Department).
