Alex Gordon Lecture in the History of Art: "Paintings Made in Friendship: Murillo and Justino de Neve," by Gabriele Finaldi, National Gallery, London

In the 1660s, Murillo executed some of his finest work for Don Justino de Neve, a priest of Seville Cathedral. These included religious paintings, portraits, allegories and miniatures on copper, several of which have only recently been identified. The friendship of the two men also led to important commissions for the Cathedral and the Church of Santa Maria la Blanca, reflecting a shared passion for painting, religion, and for their native city of Seville.
