The Frick Collection presents Full Circle: The Medal in Art History, A Symposium in Honor of Stephen K. Scher
On the occasion of the exhibition The Pursuit of Immortality: Masterpieces from the Scher Collection of Portrait Medals, The Frick Collection held a symposium on Friday, September 8, 2017, in honor of Stephen K. Scher’s many contributions to the study of medals. This symposium builds on the work of Scher and others who have sought to re-center the medal in art-historical discourse, and aimed to bring this important class of object to the attention of the broader scholarly community and the public.
