Margot Bogert, Chairman of the Frick’s Board of Trustees, announces the recent election of two new trustees, Bradford Evans and Bernard Selz. She comments, “The Frick has experienced an extremely dynamic year, having hosted acclaimed exhibitions on Andrea del Sarto and Anthony van Dyck, as well as continuing to make significant new acquisitions, publishing a remarkable selection of books and catalogues, celebrating the museum’s 80th anniversary, and doubling its Free Nights program. Likewise, the Frick Art Reference Library has progressed on a number of cutting-edge initiatives and collaborations. Supporting this hive of professional activity is a deeply engaged Board of Trustees, to which we have added two new voices that we anticipate will benefit the institution greatly. Bradford Evans and Bernard Selz come to the Board with strong leadership backgrounds and financial acumen. They also share with our staff a deeply held commitment to making the collections and the Frick experience accessible to a broad and interested public.”

Director Ian Wardropper adds, “While we look to both Evans and Selz for their financial and nonprofit leadership counsel, we also welcome them for other skill sets and areas of expertise. Evans has been a supporter of our special exhibitions as well as our efforts to reach a broader public through educational initiatives, including our Free Nights program. Selz is a knowledgeable enthusiast of eighteenth-century decorative arts and through committee involvement at the Frick, is well positioned to oversee and support related activities and acquisitions at the museum and library. He is one of several funders of the upcoming special exhibition focusing on French royal chaser-gilder Pierre Gouthière, which opens in November.”

Bradford Evans was elected to the Board of Trustees in June.  He is a Senior Advisor at Morgan Stanley, where he has worked since 1970.  During his career he has served as the Co-Head of the Firm’s Mergers and Acquisition Department and head of Morgan Stanley’s European Investment Banking Business. A graduate of Dartmouth College with an MBA from Columbia Business School, Evans served as an officer in the U.S. Navy from 1964-1968. Long interested in inner city education he is founder and Co-Chair of the Horizons Summer Enrichment Program at Sacred Heart University, Chair of the Board of the Catholic Academy of Bridgeport and a member of the Board of Wakeman Boys and Girls Club with clubhouses in Southport and Bridgeport, Connecticut. He is a member of the Board of Overseers of the Columbia Business School and a Trustee Emeritus of Dartmouth College, having served on its Board from 2003-2012. Evans currently is the Chair of the President’s Leadership Council at Dartmouth. Members of the Frick since 2000, he and his wife, Barbara, belong to the Director’s Circle. Evans will serve on the Frick’s investment and capital campaign committees.

Bernard Selz is currently the managing partner of Selz Capital LLC and was the co-founder and chair of Furman Selz, Inc. Born in Paris, Selz is a graduate of Columbia University. He has extensive experience serving on nonprofit boards and currently serves as a director of the Friends of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs and of the American Friends of Les Arts Florissants. He is a trustee of American Friends of the Victoria and Albert Museum, the World Monuments Fund, and the Walters Art Museum, Baltimore. He has also served on boards at The Brooklyn Museum and the Center for Jewish History. His devotion to the arts and education is evident in the endowment of the Lisa and Bernard Selz Curator of Asian Art at The Brooklyn Museum, and two professorships, in medieval art history and pre-Columbian art, at Columbia University. Selz was elected to the Board of Trustees of The Frick Collection in March and currently serves on the acquisitions committee. He and his wife, Lisa, are members of the Director’s Circle.
