The Frick Collection is making final preparations for its fifth annual Autumn Dinner, to be held on Monday, October 17, 2005, at 7 p.m. This year’s black-tie dinner–a much anticipated highlight of the institution’s social and fund-raising calendar–is themed A Celebration of Collecting: Chatsworth. Proceeds from the event will support a full range of programs offered by The Frick Collection, including educational and curatorial initiatives, as well as the services of the Frick Art Reference Library. The 2005 dinner honors the 12th Duke of Devonshire, Peregrine Andrew Morny Cavendish, whose family’s efforts to preserve and present their celebrated and historic great English country house have long inspired private collectors and museums worldwide. Indeed, Henry Clay Frick visited Chatsworth, and his own longstanding awareness of the treasure-filled historic home and its very special environment surely played a role in shaping his vision for the famed Fifth Avenue museum created by his bequest.
