INTRODUCTION TO IIIF

What is IIIF?

The International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF) is an interface developed by a consortium of research institutions that allows users to magnify art objects and facilitates the comparison of art objects across organizations.

How does it work?

By incorporating the IIIF viewer, this supplement allows users to zoom in—all the way in—on certain Scher Collection medals. When you click “Zoom in for a closer look,” our IIIF viewer automatically presents both the obverse (front) and reverse (back) of the selected medal. Press the zoom buttons (, ) or use the mouse scroll to zoom in and out. You may also move up, down, left, and right with the arrow buttons (, , , ).

The Frick Collection uses the IIIF viewer called Mirador.
