George Jay Gould (1864-1923) was the son of Jay Gould, a financier and railroad executive.
Scope and Content Note
The album catalogs the contents of George Jay Gould's art collection in 1945. Included are photographs and accompanying typed information--physical description, exhibition history, and provenance--for 37 paintings. The artists represented are from the 17th through the 19th centuries and are mainly French; two works are by Dutch artists.
The title of the catalog is listed as "The Collection of Mr. and Mrs. George Jay Gould, 1945." This annotation appears on the title page: "This collection is partly in New York and partly at the Chateau du Sentier, Indres et Loire, France. verbally, Geo Jay Gould, Feb. 1946, H.G.J."
