In the Oval Room, the Schiava Turca is shown with four Renaissance portraits of men: Titian’s Pietro Aretino and Portrait of a Man in a Red Cap, Bronzino’s Lodovico Capponi, and Parmigianino’s Portrait of a Man. By bringing together portraits from the Frick’s collection with two by Parmigianino — a rare occasion as none of his portraits resides in American museums — this rich panorama centered on the Schiava Turca celebrates the wit, beauty, and poetry of sixteenth-century Italian portraiture.
