Welcome and Opening Remarks
150 Years of Collecting Impressionist Art: From the Avant-Garde to the Mainstream
This two-day symposium explored the evolution of Impressionist art collecting, from the sole province of bold collectors in France to a highly popular international pursuit. Renowned art historian Richard Brettell delivered the keynote address, followed by presentations by distinguished speakers from Europe and the United States, including Joachim and Lionel Pissarro, Anne Distel, and George Shackelford. Support for the symposium was generously provided by the Edith O’Donnell Institute of Art History, Christie’s, and Northern Trust.
Co-organized by the Center for the History of Collecting, Frick Art Reference Library, and the Edith O’Donnell Institute of Art History, University of Texas, Dallas
